This is better than telling you what to do

And Jesus said to them in reply, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.” Lk 7: 22-23
I find interesting that Jesus didn’t answer John’s followers directly.
In a way, he was saying “look at my fruits and you’ll get the answer you seek.”
But, is there a deeper meaning?
John’s followers weren’t the only ones seeing the miracles. Yet, only a portion of the people came to believe in Jesus as the Messiah.
I tend to think that even if Jesus would have said, “I am the one that is to come” there would still be people who wouldn’t believe him.
The way I hear Jesus’ response is: “I cannot decide for you and it doesn’t matter what I think, believe or say. What matters is what you decide to believe after you have seen all of these outcomes.”
It is very rare in scripture that Jesus directly answers a question.
I think Jesus’ understood it’s much more powerful when the person arrives to their own conclusion and it turns out to be aligned with Truth.
I have to admit that if I have lived in the times of Jesus, I’m not sure I would have believed either.
But, I would have definitely appreciated his way of forcing me to think about it all.
What do you see?
In peace,
