Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and anyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” ~ Jn 11:25-26

Today, I reflect on Martha’s interaction with Jesus. Specifically, the quickness of her response to Jesus.

Do I believe this? Do I believe Jesus is the resurrection and the life?

To be frank, I feel like some days I don’t believe it. Why? Because sometimes Jesus seems like a distant figure. Like I have this belief that He is the resurrection and the life simply because of habit, because I grew up in a Christian household. I grew up in a Christian country. It’s something that I’ve heard every time, but do I really believe it. Do I see it in my life? Do I experience it?

Yes, I have experienced moments where I can sense the presence of God, and the feeling of being alive even when everything around me seems to be going sideways.

I’ve also been in moments where I couldn’t care less about spirituality. Those down moments where it just feels awful, and hope is nowhere to be seen.

I ponder the question because Martha didn’t seem to hesitate at all. She immediately said, “yes, I know he will be alive or rise in the resurrection.”

It’s of great value to be aware of those moments of weakness because I don’t want to be another one of those who mindlessly repeat Christian phrases and beliefs.

This is why I want to stay in the question, do I really believe this?

Because if I believe that and operate from that space, then I shouldn’t be worried when things are going haywire and I can be in this energy of aliveness, which is the promise that Jesus gave to Martha.

In peace,

~Juan
