This is more important than doing it right

“Which of the two did his father’s will?…” ~ Mt 21:31

Today, I philosophize a little.

It’s always obvious to point out other people’s “rights” or “wrongs.”

It’s a different story when we are the child being asked to do something.

To me, there’s a third scenario available in the story.

What about the son that says “yes” and shows up but isn’t truly there?

Ever encountered a person just going through the motions.

They check the box but they aren’t really there.

  • Have you caught yourself saying the “Our Father” or the Creed out of memory and habit?
  • Have you caught yourself praying the rosary without engaging with it?
  • How about someone asking “how are you?” but their eyes give the impression that they are somewhere else?

In this instance, is this person actually doing the Father’s will?

It’s easy for me to get caught up in the “rules” of being the right believer that I miss the point of it all.

To me it’s more important that my mind, body, and soul are in alignment and fully present in what I am doing than getting all the steps right.

In peace,

~Juan
