Keep Going and Welcome the Promises of God

Those that sow in tears shall reap rejoicing.” ~Psalm 126:5

Unless you listen and follow Catholic songs in Spanish, you likely don’t know Martin Valverde. Back in his early days of his Christian mission he wrote a song to himself as a means to encourage himself during the tough times. The song’s name is called “Sigue” (pronounced see-gheh), and translates as “Keep Going.”

As he introduces the song during a concert, he shared words of encouragement to anyone willing to listen and paraphrases this Psalm in a way that touched my heart. He said, roughly translated, “keep going because even though, today, you are sowing with tears, God promises you that tomorrow you will reap with shouts of joy.”

Same meaning but the extra words and framing create a significantly different picture for me.

What if today’s pains are nothing more than a source for our future joy?

Today, I ponder this question and leave you with a rough translation of the song’s lyrics.

~~

Does it cost you to keep going?
It costs you; your strength is failing you?
And your faith, can go no more?
Keep going, even if you can’t
Keep going, even if you can’t feel no more,
Keep going, you know WHO you serve,
Keep going, you’ll see in the end,
a beautiful light, the face of Jesus,
Who is finally coming.

He brings a crown for you
for continuing, for arriving.
Keep going, Come on! Keep praying!
Keep going, keep trusting in Him!
He already heard your prayer even with your little faith.

Keep going, even if you can go no more,
Keep going, even if you are drowning,
Let’s go, keep going brother/sister!
You only have a little left.
To see his work finished.
To see your faith win,
And your tears, joyfully change.
You’ll get there, you’ll get there.
You’ll get there, you’ll get there.
Keep going!

~~

In peace,

~Juan
